SUMMARY:New Approval for Metastatic Breast Cancer: Alpelisib
DESCRIPTION:This past May\, the FDA approved the targeted therapy alpelisib (Piqray) to treat certain hormone receptor-positive\, HER2-negative breast cancers in postmenopausal women and in men. Up to 40 percent of people with metastatic hormone receptor-positive\, HER2-negative breast cancer could be eligible to get the treatment\, which targets a mutation on the PIK3CA gene. Join us on July 22 to hear from our speaker Adam Brufsky\, MD\, PhD about this new medicine\, how to access it and some of the side effects that come with it. \nAlpelisib is the first PI3K inhibitor approved for breast cancer. Learn more about the FDA approval.

SUMMARY:Reflections: Body image after a breast cancer diagnosis
DESCRIPTION:Breast cancer can change the way your body feels and the way you feel about your body and yourself. Many young women say they don’t recognize the person in the mirror anymore—sometimes for the better\, and sometimes for the worse. This program will offer you specific steps to move toward understanding and accepting your changed body\, self-image\, and health. \nOur guest speaker will discuss the different ways young women feel about their bodies before and after breast cancer\, how to adapt to changes in your body during and after treatment\, and practical ways to take the first steps toward self-acceptance and love. In addition\, young women impacted by breast cancer will share how they felt before and after treatment\, and what they’re doing to move their lives forward. \nA question and answer session will follow the presentation.

SUMMARY:Maximizing the Clinical Utility of Next Generation Sequencing
DESCRIPTION:In this informative webinar\, Eric Vail\, MD\, director of molecular pathology\, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center\, will discuss how testing programs have positively transformed patient care. Vail will also explain how organizations can maximize the clinical utility of patient reports by leveraging electronic medical record data and standardizing interpretation language. During the webinar\, Vail will examine various reports\, discuss NTRK and other challenging variants\, and share best practices he has adopted within his own laboratory. \nThanks to genetic testing\, more opportunities than ever exist to improve outcomes for cancer patients. A patient’s tumor can now be sequenced\, genomic variants detected and interpreted\, and data placed into a genomic report to share with physicians\, all in a relatively short period of time. Yet the genomic information itself can present challenges. Dr. Rakesh Nagarajan\, founder and the Executive Chairman of the Board at PierianDx\, provides a prologue\, introduces the PierianDx platform\, and then hands the discussion to Dr. Vail.
