DESCRIPTION:Some breast cancers are thought to be hereditary\, caused by abnormal genes passed from parent to child. Most cases of hereditary breast cancer are associated with inherited mutations in two genes: BRCA1 (BReast CAncer gene one) and BRCA2 (BReast CAncer gene two). Together BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations account for about 25 to 30 percent of hereditary breast cancers\, and approximately three to six percent of all breast cancers. \nWhile all patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) face a complex and difficult journey\, those whose disease can be attributed to inherited gene mutations could face unique challenges. These can include\, but are not limited to\, lack of access to support services\, or genetic counseling. Importantly\, it also can include the weight of knowing that others in their family may be at risk. \nJoin us for a webinar with Dr. Lily Shahied Arruda\, Medical Director\, U.S. Medical Affairs at Pfizer Oncology\, when we will learn more about breast cancer patients’ experiences and knowledge of hereditary breast cancer and genetic testing.

DESCRIPTION:One key principle to meaningful patient-centered research is the inclusion of stakeholder perspectives\, especially the patient perspective\, for identifying the most important questions that need to be answered in addition to the most important patient-desired outcomes. \nThis webinar\, “Challenges in clinical trials and tissue collections in metastatic cancer\,” is the last in a series of four webinars from December 2018 to March 2019 that will prepare clinicians\, patients\, and researchers involved in metastatic cancer research and treatment to engage more effectively with each other and will begin to highlight potential top research priories from each stakeholder’s perspective.  These priorities will be discussed further at the Metastatic Cancer Engagement Conference in 2019\, dates and details TBA. \nThe target audience is:\n– Metastatic cancer patients\, caregivers and family members\n– Clinicians\, clinician scientists\, and translational researchers who focus on studying and/or treating metastatic cancer

Dr. Corrie Painter is leading the way in leveraging the power of the internet and our electronic interconnectedness to accelerate the pace of cancer treatment discoveries. The non-profit organization for which she is the Associate Director\, Count Me In\, partners directly with cancer patients to de-identify and publicly share data from their clinical and biological samples online. As a result\, researchers from across the biomedical community can access this large\, clinically-annotated genomics database with information from across a variety of different cancers to help accelerate treatment discoveries. \nThis webinar will explore how this is being done through the use of technology as well as the engagement of patients and other important players in the biomedical community\, including physicians\, scientists\, researchers and anyone who is able to contribute to using this data to make discoveries in cancer treatment and cures.
