SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED: 2nd International Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) will host the second Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) International Symposium. Clinical experts will explore ILC\, the second most common type of breast cancer and the eighth most common cancer in women. The goal is to begin the process of leading research that will ultimately result in improved outcomes for patients with this disease. \nILC is often difficult to diagnose since it typically does not cause a firm or distinct breast lump. Clinical and laboratory studies of breast cancer have focused almost exclusively on the more common invasive ductal cancers (IDC). Prior to the first ILC symposium held in 2016\, there has never been a focused meeting to discuss basic\, translational and clinical research on ILC\, which affects nearly 30\,000 women each year. \nThe target audience for this symposium is researchers interested in lobular cancer\, as well as medical\, surgical\, and radiation oncologists interested in the treatment of patients with invasive lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) or ILC. Patient advocate breakout sessions and networking opportunities will  be included in the program. Patient advocates for lobular cancer and other healthcare professionals are encouraged to attend.

SUMMARY:Theresa’s Research Foundation’s MBC Conference
DESCRIPTION:The mission of this conference is to bring together a diverse audience to create a collaborative research environment with a long term goal of developing curative approaches for metastatic breast cancer patients. \nBackground: \nThe Metastatic Breast Cancer Conference (MBCC) was established in 2014 as an annual medical conference for metastatic breast cancer by Theresa’s Research Foundation with leadership from Dr. Matthew Ellis and Dr. Danny Welch. The specific focus on metastatic disease is based on a major unmet clinical need (incurability); thereby distinguishing this conference from other breast cancer-centered conferences. The first conference was hosted at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. The MBCC was hosted at Baylor College of Medicine from 2015-2017. The 2018 Conference was held at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and last year’s event was held in partnership with the Mayo Clinic- Phoenix. Additional leadership is provided by Dr. Xiang Zhang and the conference planning committee.

Taught by a renowned research faculty\, this is a unique opportunity for those interested in learning more about working as an NBCC research advocate.\n\nAt the Project LEAD® Institute\, participants will: \n\n 	Learn the language and concepts of the science of breast cancer\, including cancer biology\, genetics\, genomics and proteomics\, the roles of DNA\, RNA\, and proteins\, and the development of cancer at the molecular level;\n 	Distinguish between descriptive studies\, analytic studies\, clinical trials\, and meta-analyses\, and identify the extent to which each establishes causality;\n 	Acquire the skills to critically interpret scientific literature\, and to become educated about scientific aspects of breast cancer;\n 	Become familiar with the wide range of consumer advocacy opportunities\, and how breast cancer research decisions are made;\n 	Gain the necessary leadership and advocacy development skills to confidently participate in the scientific community as a breast cancer advocate and a supporter to end breast cancer for everyone.
